Third Grade
Third grade is an exciting transitional year. Many lifelong skills such as study habits and organization, multiplication and division, cursive writing, and many more will be developed throughout this year. Math operations become more complex and students start to use higher level thinking skills. Reading focus moves from basic phonics/vocabulary skills to more comprehension and literature discussion. Student writing includes longer narratives and writing for a specific purpose. Social Studies units broaden to include community awareness and understanding how cultures are reflected in their way of life. Life Cycles, chemistry experiments, and the Solar System are units of study in 3rd grade Science.
Developmentally speaking, your child will begin to understand more abstract concepts and begin to see the world in a fresh and exciting way. Best of all, kids are usually having so much fun in class that they often don't even realize they're learning! In fact, many people remember third grade as being their favorite of all.
