On November 19, 2007, we celebrated our selection as a National Blue Ribbon Winner for Excellence in Education. Central was one of only 24 schools which earned this honor in the state of California, out of a possible 120,000 public and private schools nationwide!
A number of city, school and regional representatives were on hand for the celebration including state Sen. Leland Yee, D-San Francisco/San Mateo, Cathy Wright, Belmont-Redwood Shores Elementary School District board president, trustees Jeni Benelli and Karen Clancy, newly elected trustee Catherine Bonnar, Mayor Coralin Feierbach, City Clerk Terri Cook, City Treasurer John Violet, newly elected councilmembers David Braunstein and Christine Wozniak, and County Superintendent Jean Holbrook.
Central was given a number of gifts to celebrate the moment including a resolution honoring the teachers and staff, a flag flown over Congress in honor of Central and the key toCentral Elementary School News

'Blue' school celebrates

Students at Central Elementary in Belmont say the Pledge of Allegiance during a celebration of the school's recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.
Continuing academic success, enrichment opportunities for employees and innovative programs granted Central Elementary School in Belmont a national honor, which was the reason for hundreds to celebrate yesterday morning.
Students, teachers, staff and local leaders gathered yesterday to recognize Central Elementary School's recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. Central is one of 27 schools in California and 287 schools nationwide to get the model recognition. Many members of the crowd donned blue to commemorate the event.
