A Message from Our Principal

Dear Central Parents,

With our STAR testing behind us we are entering the most exciting time of the year. We can take pride in the growth and progress that we have been nurturing all year. We can reflect with our students on the results of all their efforts. Finally, we can CELEBRATE all the hard work that goes into a year at school.

In the next few weeks we have so many activities that give our students a chance to demonstrate what they have accomplished this year. It is also a time for them to enjoy their last few weeks of school.

This week we will hold one of the favorite days of this entire year.... our Annual Discovery Day being held on Wednesday, May 16th. This event allows every student to attend many different, fun and exciting learning opportunities offered by parents and community volunteers. Instead of their regular classroom routine, students sign up for classes of their choice with everything offered from building bird houses and baking pies to dissecting frogs and planting personal herb gardens. It is a most extraordinary day for all students. Every year the children's faces say it all. They are positively glowing! It is a perfect example of the commitment parents and community members have invested in our most precious gift, our kids.

On Thursday, May 17th we have our Annual Spring Sing. This will be the twenty-second year that we have had this delightful musical performance of the children in grades K-3. The program is again driven by parent volunteers who work weekly with students throughout the year teaching the love of music. Students in grades K-2 are taught vocal music while third grade students learn to play recorders. This training prepares them for instrumental music offered in grade four.

Next week we will be welcoming you to our Annual Open House. It will take place on Wednesday, May 23 at 7:00 PM. Our students are working hard, preparing to share their classrooms and their successes with families and friends. As part of the celebration, Central's Art in Action committee will be showcasing students' artwork at the Central Art Show which will be held in the multi-use room.

We look forward to sharing these special events with you, all of which are the culmination of this year's work.

I especially want to thank and applaud the outstanding parent volunteers for the untold hours of hard work and dedication and for sharing their talent. Central is so very blessed to have your marvelous support.

Warmest regards,
Cori McKenzie

Tomorrow is Discovery Day!

Wednesday, May 16th

Please have your children dress in comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes.  Those children in grades 1-5  may be participating in sessions such as karate, basketball, dance or a nature treasure hunt... and some of our food, science and art sessions may get a bit messy!  Kindergarten students will also have their own set of very special (and messy activities).

Parking will be limited.  Spaces in Central's lot will be reserved for Discovery Day Session Leaders and volunteers ONLY.

We are on the regular, Wednesday (Short Day) Dismissal Times.

School-Force Updates

School-Force has raised $1 million towards our goal of $3 million for our next school year, with 57% of district families having made a donation.  Now that Tax Day has come and gone, it's time to make your donation!!  Be a part of something great - the solution to keeping our schools strong.   We need EVERYONE to be a part of the solution.  Please make your suggested donation of $1200 per child at: www.schoolforce.org/donate now!  June 30, 2012 is the last chance to make a difference for next school year.

News from the Library

We have  several collections the kids play with during morning recess and lunch recess. We have shells, buttons and rocks along with many games. I'd like to start a KEY collection. Do any of you have a key at the bottom of that kitchen drawer that you don't know what it belongs to? Maybe a car key and you don't even have that car anymore? All donations will happily be accepted. I'll start the collection with a few of my own! (Lonely buttons can always be added to our existing button collection too!)

May 18th will be the last day for this year in the Central School Library. Please remember to return all books by May 14th-18th.
